The Business 

T.A. Telecom, and its founder, Amr, are poised for exciting times. T.A. Telecom has been serving people’s “need to know” via mobile technology since 2000, when Egypt had but single-digit mobile penetration. The company’s first service was demographically-targeted, permission-based SMS advertising, which was pitched to consumers as a way to “be the first to know.” In 2006, T.A. Telecom introduced CAP, a content delivery platform that now specializes in the delivery of information services to mobile subscribers via SMS subscription services. By using innovative business models and user propositions, T.A. Telecom specializes in creating value for the cost-savvy prepaid mobile customer, as well as capturing this value and generating revenues for the mobile operators. With over a decade of experience in the VASindustry, T.A. Telecom is positioned to become MENA’s premier mobile platform for time- and location-specific content.


The Entrepreneur

Amr Shady enrolled in Dalhousie University in Canada at the age of fifteen to study electrical engineering. Upon graduating, he took a managerial post at the company his father founded in the 1970s, an electrical contracting firm with the bulk of its operations in Saudi Arabia. By the age of twenty-one,  Amr was managing the company’s Egypt operations. Amr found that electrical contracting work simply failed to light his fire. He decided to follow in his father’s footsteps—not by taking over the family business but by starting his own company. In 2000, together with a friend and with financing from his father, he built a platform that enabled permission-based SMS advertising.  This served as a starting point for T.A. Telecom’s core offering today, developing content platforms for mobile operators such as Mobinil 8000 and Etisalat Content Portal. T.A. Telecom is now offering its services in Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Afghanistan.
