Celebrating Egypt’s WEF Winners

In honor of the 14 Egyptian companies selected among the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Top 100 Arab Start-Ups shaping the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), a special Sohour evening was organized on June 14th by the AMCHAM Entrepreneurship and Innovation Committee (EIC) to celebrate and recognize those entrepreneurs ‘enabling a generational transformation,’ in Egypt and across the MENA region. Attended by the start-ups and a number of prominent figures from Egypt’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, the event was hosted in partnership with Endeavor Egypt and the AUC Center for Entrepreneurship.

The selected start-ups included Endeavor Egypt Entrepreneur companies Vezeeta, TA Telecom and Eventtus alongside a host of success stories and inspiring promising Egyptian ventures: Fawry, MoneyFellows, Paymob, ITWorx Education, Nafham, Karm Solar, Mumm, D-Kimia Diagnostic Solutions, Elves, Simplex, Edfa3ly and Rise Up. Overall, of the 100 start-ups, 20 are Endeavor high-impact Entrepreneur companies from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

This year the WEF on the MENA held at the Dead Sea in Jordan from May 19-21 hosted more than 1,000 business and political leaders and representatives from civil society, international organizations, youth and the media from over 50 countries will participate under the theme, ‘Enabling a Generational Transformation’. Drawing on this theme, the selection of the Top 100 Arab Start-Ups was made by the WEF and in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

After a night of networking and attendee engagement, the AMCHAM EIC and its event partners committed to hosting more of such events and spaces that will be dedicated to facilitating connections among ecosystem stakeholders, enabling dialogue over important issues and recognizing local entrepreneurship efforts with the goal of contributing to fostering a culture that recognizes local impactful enterprises and success stories.

The EIC is one of the committees of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt spearheading advocacy efforts for a favorable business environment in Egypt with a special focus on issues related to entrepreneurship and innovation. EIC provides a forum for its members to identify, discuss and pursue common interests while engaging wider entrepreneurship and innovation stakeholders across Egypt through its events and activities.
